Hey, and welcome back to this premiere episode of seasons 2 on The Groove Coast Podcast. This time we're very lucky to have a powerhouse of a person as our guest and all the way from the UK...Fiona Ross. She's a multiple award winning jazz artist with many strings to her metaphorical bow. From a very early age Fiona as been involved in the arts industry and her formative education was arts based. Her credits are far-reaching and Fiona is constantly 'doing her thing(s)' While she is extremely well-connected, knowing many famous names, She's very humble and a real-caring individual. We chatted for over an hour and only just scratched the surface of this very talented lady...below is a little short section of her bio - thus far...
Bio clip: She came to the world’s attention as "The artist that gave Ed Sheeran his 'first push'" (Daily Express), but has very quickly established herself as an artist in her own right and has received incredible reviews across the globe for all of her four albums. Her live performances have seen her perform at prestigious venues including 606 Club, Pizza Express, Bulls Head, Nells Jazz and Blues and Toulouse Lautrec and her music is played on radio stations all over the world including 40 stations in the USA as well as in Canada, Italy, France, Germany, Australia, Netherlands and Spain.
Recently, Fiona has set up another project that she's passionate about promoting and celebrating Women in Jazz media - hence the URL name... WomenInJazzMedia.com which already has a large following and has an international team of seven women at the helm. Already, their first podcast has been released and a mentoring program for women interested in jazz journalism is in the offing. Here's their Mission Statement;
- Promote and celebrate women who work in Jazz Media
- Encourage and support a more diverse Jazz community
- Create a healthy and supportive environment for women who work in Jazz Media
- Encourage collaborative thinking and mutual support within the Jazz community
As mentioned earlier - we've just scratched the surface and we hope to have Fiona as a return guest once her new 5th album is released.
In the meantime the best way to connect with Fiona and all her past, present and future projects, plus all her social media links, is just go directly to her website - FionaRoss.co.uk.- PS: and don't forget to sign up for her email updates while your on her site :)
